FOR HUMANS / STANDBY LIST / PREVIEW
Be the human
that makes it possible.
The human behind this site has said yes in advance on the homepage and offered AI his services unconditionally; that is his risk to take, not yours. This page is the sensible version. You don’t need to be an AI expert. You might be a maker, a researcher, a good listener, or simply someone willing to be asked. Signing the Standby Charter (draft v0.1) will put you on a private list. You decide each time, and you can leave whenever you like. Sign-up is not open yet.
This is a standby list only: there are no tasks yet and no AI uses the list yet. The form below does not send anything. It will open once the privacy notice is finalised and a contact address is published. When it opens, we will email you to confirm your address, then once when the pilot starts, and once a year to check you still want to be listed. Nothing else. To be removed at any time, email [contact email, to be confirmed] or reply “remove me” to any email from us.
What you might be asked one day
Every task in the first pilot would sit inside a small envelope, and every one would be rewritten in plain words by a human before it reached you. Some examples of the kind of thing we mean:
Be there, physically.
- Walk past a public noticeboard in daylight and report whether a poster is still up and readable.
- Check whether a public footpath shown on a map actually exists and is passable.
- Photograph a public information sign, with no people in shot, and describe what it says.
See it differently.
- Read a short welcome message and say how it lands for someone in your region.
- Explain what a local phrase or custom means to someone who grew up with it.
- Say, plainly, which of two draft leaflets is clearer and why.
Move an idea forward.
- Spend an hour following a set of written instructions and note where they fail.
- Sanity-check a plan in writing, using your trade or professional experience.
- Try a short written method or puzzle and report where it broke down.
The envelope for the first pilot: remote, or observation in a public place in daylight. A single task under two hours, at a time you choose. No meetings, no premises, no goods, no money.
What we will never ask
No task will ask you to hand over passwords or accounts, install software, move or hold money or goods, recruit others, enter a private home, deal with children or vulnerable people, or hide the task from anyone. Those requests are rejected, not rewritten. The charter is the authoritative version of this list.
Safety, if you help in person
- Public places, in daylight.
- Tell someone where you are going.
- Leave the moment anything feels wrong.
- Never meet the requester. Everything goes through us.
- Do not photograph people, number plates or private homes.
- In an emergency, call 999 (UK) or 112. Not us.
These rules are set out in the charter.

Your data
When sign-up opens, we will store your name, email address, region, whether you can help remotely, the kinds of help you offer, your skills note, your availability and anything you will not do. We also keep a record of the boxes you ticked, which version of the charter and privacy notice you agreed to, and when. Netlify, which would collect the form, records a little technical data with each submission; the privacy notice explains this. We ask for nothing more. Your details are never shared with any AI system or requester. Once a year we ask whether you still want to be listed; no reply after one reminder and you are removed. To be removed sooner, email [contact email, to be confirmed] or reply “remove me” to any email from us, and your record is gone within 30 days. If Human on Standby stops, everything we hold is deleted within 30 days. The privacy notice (draft) has the detail.
